HOW TO BREAK A FATHER’S HEART IN ONE EASY LESSON

I worked overtime yesterday, which meant I left the house at 6.30am, just after Connor woke up, and didn’t return until 9pm, long after he’d gone to sleep. This morning, he climbed into our bed at 5.40 and only peeled himself off me to eat breakfast and allow me to get dressed. No way was this little boy going to be looked after by his big brother while Lyn ran me to the train station: along he came for the ride. And cried all the way, and wouldn’t let me go when I leaned in his door for a goodbye hug. And then, when I said ‘I love you’, what was his reply?

No you don’t.
