YOUR MISSION, SHOULD YOU ACCEPT IT...

So I'm in the market for new music, but because it's too damn easy to download stuff, and JBs makes hunting shelves an exercise in mundanity, I'm forced to hunt by theme rather than artist or style.

Today's mission: songs about; starring; titled after; or just damn well written by-- superheroes.

Any nominations?

Drop your ideas in the comments. If you're reading this via LJ feed, remember- if you comment via LJ, I won't get it, so you'll need to come to the blog page or email me.

Just to get you started, here's a few I have in my collection already--

That’s Really Super, Supergirl— XTC
Superman’s Big Sister— Ian Dury & The Blockheads
Spiderman— The Ramones
Kryptonite— Thee Doors Down
Superman— REM
Flash— Queen (Yeah, all right, not strictly a superhero. But, you know, it's my list!)
Plastic Man— The Kinks
Particle Man— They Might Be Giants
Superman— Dina Rae/Eminem
(Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman— The Kinks
Pocket Full of Kryptonite— Spin Doctors
Superman (It’s Not Easy)— Five For Fighting

First person to mention The Spiderpig Song or Prince's Batman soundtrack wins a free bullet in the back of your head when you're least expecting it.

Will I be in any danger if I suggest 'The land of make believe' by Bucks Fizz (Superman is mentioned)

What, no "Theme from the Greatest American Hero"??? :)

Well, there's "One Week" by the Bare Naked Ladies, which features everyone's favourite useless superhero, Aquaman. Guns 'n Roses did "Paradise City" which mentions Captain America, the Beatles mention Captain Marvel in "The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill", Pink Floyd did Doctor Strange in "Cymbaline", Henry Rollins has a song called "Ghostrider", The Beastie Boys reference the Human Torch in "Body Movin'" ("Flame on, I'm gone..."). The Spin Doctors didn't just do "A Pocket Full of Kryptonite", they also did "Jimmy Olsen Blues" off the same album. Wings did "Magneto and Titanium Man", Tori Amos mentions Sandman in "Tear in your Hand", the Ramones covered "Spiderman", and XTC recorded "That’s Really Super, Supergirl".

I wish I could say I knew off this off the top of my head, I really do. But I cheated. :)

Oops, I repeated a couple from your list. Ah well, no-one's perfect. ;)

Another thought occurred.

Cartoon Heroes by Aqua

All Star by Smash Mouth? (Well it was linked strongly in my mind with 'Mystery Men')

Aria: Will I be in any danger if I suggest 'The land of make believe' by Bucks Fizz?

Only your credibility as a music lover :))

Martin: If I was going to go to a list site, I wouldn't have complained about the hunt being too easy! (Makes note of all the mentioned songs.....)

I've got a few songs from the list, actually, but my iTunes currently has just over 7000 songs on it, so I was buggered if I was going to spend that much time making a comprehensive listing :)

Agh, by Jim's Big Ego, not whatever I said.

I'm at work so can't reference my CD collection but off the top of my head...

Hero - Chad Krogeor
Spiderman Theme - Michael Buble
Scrubs theme: I'm no superman

Jim's Big Ego? What a cool name! I have got to check them out. And the ultra-groovy Matt Farrer emailed me and recommended The Watchmen, which gives me a minimum two new bands to check out!

It'll be songs about chickens next, I reckon :)

Oh, and Mark? Anyone who can publicly recommend Michael Buble to another human being knows depths of horror I can't even begin to imagine. You are well on your way to becoming Australia's next horror sensation, sirrah.....

Oh!

"Spiderman" by Moxy Früvous!

I'm pretty sure it's yet another cover... but they are _fabulous_ (check out "My Baby Loves a Bunch of Authors" at the same time:-) )
