YEAH, THIS ONE AGAIN...

Okay, I bit, over at Grant's and Callisto's LJs, so by the rules of the game I have to pass it on. So:

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me!"
2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will post the answers to the questions (and the questions themselves) on your blog or journal.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions. And thus the endless cycle of the meme goes on and on and on and on...

Gwan then.

  2. Somehow, I knew you'd be first :)

    Okay:

    1. Pretty much my first act upon meeting you was to accuse you of writing a cheap, lazy story, ripping it apart before 17 people. What was your reaction to that, after a comfy first Clarion week?

    2. Your brother-in-law is Adelaide 36ers centre (and reigning NBL player of the month) Luke Schencher. Any sporting genes in your side of the family?

    3. You've been tagged one of the shooting stars of Australian SF, and a writr to keep a close eye on. How do you deal with such expectations?

    4. You've got a wonderful wife (Heya Kate!) and a beautiful new baby, so, naturally, you've just joined the ASIM co-op as well. How do you balance husbandhood, parenthood, a full time job, ASIM and writing?

    5. Your own Hadron super-collider, or a talking chicken?

    1. London or Perth, and why?

Right now? London, because I'm in Perth. That would probably change if I was in London, though! I think it's the excitement of the city, the amount of culture and history, the literary scene there, plus extreme proximity to mainland Europe. I'm not one of these guys who wants to explore Asia, it's just not my thing. I love me a bit of Europe, though!

    2. When is the next novel going to be completed?

Probably in November, when I do NaNoWriMo again. ;) Of course, your value of "completed" may vary; I do tend to get bored once I've finished a first draft, which is why I have four first draft novels just sitting there waiting for me to return to them.

    3. Is there a Carnies sequel anywhere in the works?

It has a title, Bitches, and a rough prologue. But no actual ideas for a plot or anything yet. If there's ever a real call for one, and I have some notion of what it should be about, then it'll happen. But I've got such a short attention span, I'm already bored with the Carnies world at this stage!

    4. When are you and Izz going to get married?

November 23rd, 2010. 2010 seems appropriate; we met in the title of a Arthur C. Clarke novel (2001), so we should get married in one as well!

    5. Never mind ninjas v. pirates. Give me a winner- Ferrets vs penguins.

Ferrets, hands down. Having lived with some (thanks, Kylie!), I know exactly what they're capable of. I still have some scars, both physical and emotional. Of course, they sleep 20 out of 24 hours, so the penguins could probably take advantage of that and... well, waddle away. No real contest here. Ferrets eat penguins, end of story.

  12. 1. In the name of all that's holy, what possessed you to buy a book store?

    It was on special?

A little more seriously: it was that or see it shut down, and I'd put too much work into it to see it die. And I needed something to do when I wasn't teaching at uni.

I could also claim to be motivated by altruism, at least in part: we stock a lot of small press stuff by local writers, that isn't widely available elsewhere in Perth. But that would mostly be a rationalization. Working in an sf bookshop is a lot of fun - not quite up there with writing or acting, but more enjoyable than most jobs I've had. So it seemed worth a shot.

    2. How soon before you can buy back the rights to the first 2 'Arrow Cutting' books so we have a chance of seeing the 3rd installment?

In theory, I suspect I could do it now - but until I think there's a chance of someone buying the trilogy, there doesn't seem much point.

    3. what's the next major project from the house of Dedman?

Not counting the stack of novels Elaine is writing? Damned if I know. I'm still trying to sell the last three novels I wrote - four if you include Savage Gods.

    4. Your all-time favourite vampire?

Mathilda May in Lifeforce. Sure, it's a lousy movie, but I could watch her scenes every day.

    5. Without remotely dissembling, would you rather sweat green liquid from your pores or fart blue smoke?

Blue smoke, as long as it was carbon-neutral.
